What is Not accepted at the Household Material Recovery Facility?

Items Not accepted are:

  • Construction and demolition debris (including wood and shingles)
  • Asbestos (under NO circumstances will asbestos be accepted - please contact an asbestos abatement company)
  • Medical waste (except pharmaceuticals)
  • Motor Oil
  • Explosives (e.g. fireworks, bullets and flares - call your local police department for instructions)
  • Curbside recyclables (glass, metal, plastic, cardboard and paper products)
  • Non-rechargeable alkaline and carbon zinc batteries (dispose in trash)
  • Smoke and fire detectors (dispose in trash)
  • Sharps (medical needles and syringes)
  • Paint (oil and latex) - harden paint and dispose in trash
  • Plastic Bags (bring to large retailer)
  • Papers from businesses, institutions, or commercial enterprises will not be accepted for shredding. County staff will reject any paper identified as commercial or institutional.
