As stated in the Mt. Pleasant Police Department’s Press Release (PDF) from earlier today, the Police Department is continuing to investigate the shooting that occurred in the Kensico Cemetery. The Police Department can confirm that the subjects involved are not Town residents. The investigation is ongoing.
Unrelated to the Kensico Cemetery incident, the Hawthorne Wine and Spirits liquor store, located at 383 Elwood Ave. in Hawthorne, was burglarized at approximately 4:00 am on Sunday, February 11, 2024. The investigation so far, has determined that three subjects entered the store through the front door glass that was smashed out with rocks. They remained in the store for approximately two minutes and then fled to an awaiting get- away vehicle. The burglars removed approximately $1000 combined worth of merchandise and cash. A patrol officer spotted a possible suspect vehicle traveling south on the Sprain Parkway at a high rate of speed shortly after the incident and attempted to catch up to vehicle. Due to the high rate of speed, the officer discontinued the attempt. This investigation is also ongoing.
Chief Oliva reports that “The Mount Pleasant Police Department continues to add extra officers on patrol to combat the increased frequency of persons that enter Town with larcenous intent. The officers are out there actively patrolling to deter this criminal activity." Any persons with information regarding either incident is requested to contact the Mount Pleasant Police Department at 914-769-1941.
Residents are reminded to lock their cars and trucks when not in use and to avoid leaving keys, purses and valuables in vehicles, particularly overnight. Working together we can help assure Mount Pleasant continues to be the safe and wonderful community we all appreciate.
