NOTICE TO CONSUMERS
OF
THE VALHALLA, HAWTHORNE AND THORNWOOD WATER DISTRICTS
NOW CONSOLIDATED AS THE KENSICO WATER DISTRICT
On or about May 2, 2005, the newly constructed Consolidated Water Treatment Facilities will begin to be placed into service. It is anticipated that the startup process will take 5 to 6 weeks to complete. This work will be conducted between the normal business hours of 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
During the course of the startup you may observe fluctuations in pressure or discolored water. Pressure fluctuations will be as the result of the activation of the newly installed pressure reducing chambers. Areas of high pressure will realize a decrease in pressure, while area of low pressure will realize an increase in pressure. Discolored water may result from the suspension of naturally occurring sediment in the water mains, caused by flow reversals. In the event of persistent discolored water the water department will be flushing hydrants to alleviate this condition. Hydrant flushing may occur either during the day or at night. Consumers are advised to check their water prior to doing laundry, and to store water in the refrigerator for drinking and cooking.
The first area to be supplied by the new system will be the portion of Valhalla east of Lorenz Drive and south of Stone Gate Road. Next the remainder of Valhalla will be supplied, followed by Thornwood. The final area to be supplied will be Hawthorne.
For updates on the progress of the startup, residents are advised to watch cable channel 78, or check back frequently at the town's website.
We apologize in advance for any inconvenience to you, and appreciate your cooperation and patience during the course of this startup process.
