What about snow removal?

1. Parked vehicles are not allowed on the roadway starting December 1, and ending April 1 from 1:00am - 6:00am. This allows for efficient snow removal.

2. All primary roads are treated first using the latest in de-icing chemicals, liquids and abrasives. All secondary roads are second.

3. All primary roads are plowed first when snow levels reach 1 inch.

4. All secondary roads are plowed second.

5.The Town uses 25 snow plow vehicles to keep the roads safe and clean.

6. Please do not plow or throw snow into the roadways. This can only create a dangerous situation.

Is compost available?

Residents should call 769-1045 starting February 1st of each year to place an order for compost. Compost will be delivered beginning the second week of April, weather permitting.

Where can I get a holiday pickup schedule?

Holidays are New Years Day, Martin Luther Kings's Birthday, President's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas. Questions about garbage and recycling pickup should be directed to CRP Sanitation at 914-592-4129.

When is bulk pickup? What can I put out for bulk pickup?

Bulk pick up is the 2nd pickup of the week.

Appliances, couches and other large items will be collected at the curb by appointment. Call CRP Sanitation at 592-4129.
Televisions, computer monitors and air conditioners will be picked up by the Highway Dept - curb side by apppointment on Wednesdays. Call 769-1045.

What is not accepted at Household Chemical Clean-up Days?

Items not accepted are:
Oil & Latex (Dispose with household trash in solid form.

Air dry and use kitty litter or waste paint hardener).

Motor Oil (Take to service station or motor oil retail outlet).

Vehicle Batteries (Take to local scrap metal dealer or vehicle battery retail center).

Non-Rechargable Batteries (Dispose of in trash).

Compressed Gas Cylinders (Helium and oxygen & 20 lb. propane tanks). **Can be taken to Highway Dept at 596 Columbus Ave., Thornwood NY**

Smoke and Fire Detectors.

Material from Commercial & Institutional Use.

What is accepted at Household Chemical Clean-up Days?

Most properly labeled household chemicals including: most automotive fluids (i.e. antifreeze, brake fluid, gasoline); Chemistry Kits, Fire Starter Fluid (i.e. kerosene, butane, charcoal fluid); Metal, Jewelry and Furnisher Polishes & Waxes; Turpentine & Solvents; Pesticides, Insecticides, Herbicides,; Photographic and Swimming Poll Chemicals; Wood Preservatives; Car Tire (max of 10); Flourescent Light Bulbs, Fire Extinguishers; 1 to 2 pound propane tanks, Rechargeable & Button Cell Batteries.

Westchester County Household Chemical Clean-Up Days are held throughout the year at FDR Park in Yorktown, Westchester Community College in Valhalla, Rye Playland in Rye and County Recycling Center in Yonkers.

When are Westchester County "Household Clean-Up Days" scheduled?

The County sponsors Chemical Clean Up Days for most materials used in cleaning, gardening, hobbies, and auto maintenance. Household Chemical Clean-Up Days are scheduled three times a year. Call the Westchester County Household Chemical Info Line at 914-813-5425, or go to www.westchestergov.com on the internet. Refer to 2007 Recycling booklet.

What is recycable? What isn't?
GLASS: All glass bottles and jars (including wine, liquor, soda and juice are recyclable. Three colored glass: clear, green or amber is recyclable.

China, crystal, mirrors, light bulbs, kitchen ware, window glass, windshields, ceramics and pottery are NOT recyclable.

METALS: Tin, aluminum and bi-metal cans (usually referred to as tin) including food, juice, soup, fruit, vegetable, beverage cans, clean aluminum foil trays and empty aerosol cans are recyclable.
Oil & paint cans, plastic dinner trays, aluminum siding, wire and auto parts, appliances and batteries are NOT recyclable.

There is no need to remove labels from cans. Please rinse out containers and remove lids and caps. Place in BLUE recycle container.

PLASTICS: Number 1 and Number 2 plastics (Pet & HDPE) including milk and water containers, soda, detergent bottles, containers up to 2 gallons are recyclable.

Plastics stamped on bottom with No. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 are NOT recyclable. Toys, plastic foam, film, vinyl, plastic wrap, hazardous materials such as motor oil or chlorine bleach, pesticides etc. are NOT recyclable.

NEWSPAPERS & MAGAZINES: Magazines, including glossy periodicals and merchandise catalogues, junk mail envelopes, sweepstakes forms and office paper should all be placed on separate brown bag or bundled. Newspapers should be placed in separate brown bags or bundled.

Books, wrapping paper, cereal boxes, cardboard scraps and carbon paper are NOT recyclable.

CARDBOARD: Corrugated cardboard boxes must be flattened and should be cleaned of excessive tape, staples and plastic labels. Large boxes from appliances must be flattened and tied.
Cereal boxes, tissue boxes, pizza boxes, toilet paper and paper towel rolls, and waxed cardboard are NOT Recyclable.

When is curbside recycling pickup?

Recycling pickup is Wednesday of each week with the exception of holiday weeks (see schedule). Commingled recyclables and newspapers must be placed by the curb by 6:30am on the scheduled pickup day. Questions about garbage and recycling pickup in the Town of Mt. Pleasant should be directed to the Sanitation Department at 592-4129.

When will christmas trees be picked up?

Christmas trees will be picked up at the curb during regular collection by the Sanitation Department in January.

Will the highway department pickup building & construction material?

The town will not pick-up building and construction material. Homeowners must make their own arrangements.

When is my garbage collected?
Regular trash is picked up on either Monday & Thursdays or Tuesdays & Fridays depending on which area you live in.

All material must be placed curbside by 7:00 am

All loose material must be in plastic bags, containers or tied.

Appliances will be collected curbside by appointment only

The following will not be picked up: leaves, grass, branches tied or otherwise. No stumps, no blocks, no dirt, no concrete, no plastic, no tiles.

Propane tanks can go to the Highway Dept.

When is leaf pick-up?

Leaves are collected commencing around October 15th and continuing until winter weather curtails operations. Bagged leaves will be collected every 10-15 working days depending on weather conditions. Leaves must be in brown paper biodegradable bags. Bags are on sale at the Highway Department throughout the year and the price is 6 bags for $1.00. Loose leaves raked to the curb, not in the road should not be mixed with any other materials as they will not be collected. The loose leaves will be collected every 20-25 working days depending on weather conditions.

Plastic Bags are not accepted. Only paper biodegradable bags will be picked up. Brush will not be collected after October 31st

After December 1st, all leaves must be bagged

Where can I purchase biodegradable bags?

In the Town of Mt. Pleasant, bags are on sale at the Highway Department on Columbus Avenue throughout the year.

Paper bags are available for sale at the Highway Dept.- 6 bags for $1.00

When is yard waste collected?

In the Town of Mt. Pleasant yard waste will be picked up from April 1st through Oct 31st. Normal conditions require 3-5 days to complete each section. Leaves, grass, clippings and garden debris must be in paper biodegradable bags. Branches must be no longer than 4 feet in length and stacked at the curb neatly. Questions about pickup in the Town of Mt. Pleasant should be directed to the Highway Department at 769-1045. Brush will not be collected after October 31st. No stumps or large logs will be collected.

Where do I get a recycling bin?

If you are a new resident or your recycling bin is destroyed or stolen, you may obtain a new bin at the Highway Department.
